The Red Dot Gallery

The Red Dot Gallery has been part of Icknield High School since December 2004, first opening its doors to the public with an official launch that took place on Monday 25th January 2005.

The first ever exhibition held at the on-site gallery consisted of digital artwork created by Icknield students. Since then we have had numerous exhibitions by our own students and staff, aswell as students from other local schools, local practicing artists and organisations such as the UKCCA (UK Centre for Carnival Arts).

The Red Dot Gallery has also played host to our annual Fashion Show and the Private View events that precede each exhibition.

As part of the gallerys community arts initiative, we also run art workshops for local primary schools and other organisations.

Schools are invited to visit The Red Dot Gallery where their students can view and discuss artwork in a professional environment and go on to take part in workshops of their choice. Themes and materials used vary depending on school, student age/ability and the topics they are focusing on.

The Saturday Morning Art Club (which takes place at Icknield High School) is also connected to The Red Dot Gallery. Pupils in Year 5 and 6 from local primary schools are invited to take part in the club which is led by the The Red Dot Gallery co-ordinator and Icknields resident artists. The artwork the pupils create is exhibited at the gallery soon after where parents and children can then view their creations.

The Red Dot Gallery also plays an important role to our GCSE students. As Icknield High School is a Specialist Arts College, every pupil is required to take a GCSE art subject. This can range from Textiles to Film to Digital Imaging to Graphic Design etc. In order to enhance the sense of pride and accomplishment when the Year 11 students have completed their GCSEs, the gallery hosts a Best of GCSE exhibition after their examinations are completed.

The Red Dot Gallery also has extensive E-Learning resources including a Video Conferencing facility enabling us to offer artist talks, discussions or video conferenced workshops to schools or organisations with similar equipment.

If you are interested in learning more about what we offer at The Red Dot Gallery or you are a local artist looking for a venue to exhibit in, please call Sam Lavin on 01582 591903 or email reddotgallery@hotmail.com.
